This
was the best day of my project yet! I got
to school and the kiln was at about three hundred fifty degrees, so it was
still too hot to unload. I had to wait
patiently until after block four. Then
the kiln was at two hundred fifty degrees, which apparently means go time. I had to wear big thick gloves and I unloaded
the whole thing all by myself. Lots of
pictures to come. The bowls and a few
mugs that were separate from my project were on the top shelf, so I got to peek
at those first, and then all of the plates were on the shelf underneath. Only one of the plates actually warped, and
the rest of them look awesome! The clear
glaze cape out really nice. It didn’t
drip of get milky anywhere, it’s just really smooth and nice.
Needless to say, I couldn’t focus on
anything until I got the kiln unloaded, so I did some homework block
three. Then it took me all of five and
six to unload the kiln. Then I had World
religions block seven, and during block eight I trimmed my six tumblers, which
in the end, aren’t really tumblers because they’re a little to short for that
category. So we’re back to calling them
cups. They look good though; I think
they really look like a set.
So now I have six salad plates, two
dinner plates, and four bowls totally finished.
And I have four more dinner plates, plus a teapot and two serving bowls
that are out of the bisque and ready to be glazed. And there are six cups and a platter that are
drying and ready to go into the bisque.
I still need to make four little teacups to go with the teapot, plus a
few candlesticks. After I get all of
those things made, I’m going to focus on glazing, and hopefully I’ll be able to
fill the electric kiln again pretty quickly.
I have to figure out when they’re doing another bisque firing so that I
can get as much work as possible into the electric kiln firing.
So everything looks like it’s coming
along right on time. I have to figure
out how I’m going to display everything when it’s set up in the gallery. I need to get a small table and a tablecloth
and all that good stuff. I can’t wait to
see it all set up.
