I started trimming plates today! It was way more time consuming than I thought
it was going to be. I felt good once I
got into the swing of it though. I
marked one of the wheels with a sign that says “porcelain only!” so that it’ll
take me less time to get myself set up.
It’s kind of annoying that the two blocks I have class are four and
seven, because I have to clean up at the end of block three, then at the end of
block six, and then again before the end of the day. I wish my classes were in a row so that I’d
have more time to actually work. It is
super frustrating that so much of the time goes to setting up and
cleaning. I guess I’ve done all I can, though, to
streamline that part of the process. I’m
really happy with my schedule all in all though. I really like my World Religions class,
although it’s kind of a lot of work. A
little heavy mental lifting is a good thing after a super meditative day of
squishing my hands into clay and chitchatting with my English class about
Virginia Woolf. I’m really happy with
the way the plates that I have trimmed are looking. Except for a few little discrepancies between
the plates, I think they’re really looking like a set. I trimmed five plates, and it took me ALL
day. But I I’ve left myself enough
wiggle room that I’m still on schedule, and I think that now that I know what
I’m doing a little more, things are going to start moving a bit more
quickly. I’m glad I got an early start
with planning and sketching before the process actually started. I’ve been listening to a David Sedaris book
on my phone and it’s really great. It’s
the one called “When you are Engulfed in Flames.” It makes me want to actually
work sometimes, when I’d otherwise want to take a nap, maybe, because I want to
finish one listening to one of the stories.
I like listening to books better than listening to music when I’m doing something
for an extended period of time. I feel
goofy sometimes though, because I have to keep myself from laughing and then I think
I just end up making weird stifled noises, but I can’t hear them because I’ve
got the headphones in, so who’s to say.
